"I came to the realization that I needed to stop making a distinction between work and personal time..."
"As I sat and thought about being exhausted and working through the check list of what I needed to do the next day in my head I started to think about the AMPTV show Tired Team Members. In the show, Darren and Barb talked about time management, giving people your best, how you spend your time at work and/or at home and if you love what you do...
I thought long and hard about it. I spent a lot of time thinking about if I gave my family, my co-workers and my friends my best. After being honest with myself I then spent a long period of time asking myself if I gave the right amount of time to each onf of these groups. Was I short changing my family? Was I using my family as a reason to not give my friends time? Was I short changing my co-workers?
Was I showing up to life Tired?
In that moment I went back and thought about all the times I remembered showing up to work tired and not giving it my all. Even times where I have showed up to dinner with my family tired and was not giving them my all. Then it dawned on me the exact moment where I stopped making a distinction between work and personal time.
All of our time at work and at whome with our families should be meaningful time. There should be no distinction between the two. I bring this up becuase I think we all need to ask ourselves how we optimize our time and spend it in ways that enriches our lives. Whether it be at work or at home.
If we do this we will notice we give both work and personal time our full attention and won't show up "tired" anymore.
Our time on earth is limited, we owe it to ourselves to make the best of it and now show up tired. We need to give every moment we have wether it be at work or on a family vacation. Give it our full attention and truly be present."
